Gwinnett County is marking Hispanic Latino Heritage Month with its annual community celebration this Friday, Oct. 9, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville. The free, family-friendly event is organized by the county's Board of Commissioners and will fill the parking deck lawn with live performances, global cuisine, an artisan market, and cultural demonstrations.
The celebration is a fixture on the county's fall calendar, and officials frame it as a reflection of just how large a share of Gwinnett's population it represents. “About a quarter of Gwinnett's million residents are Hispanic or Latino,” Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson said in the county's announcement of the event.
What to expect
The lineup draws on local musicians, dancers, storytellers, and cultural performers, alongside food vendors serving heritage-inspired dishes and artists and makers whose work reflects traditional or contemporary Hispanic and Latino culture. The county opened the event to community performers and vendors back in late August, with Hendrickson encouraging residents to take part directly: “Local voices, flavors and creative performers and artists are encouraged to apply.”
Applications to perform or sell closed Sept. 15, but the celebration itself is open to the public to simply show up and enjoy — the county's event page points attendees to a free Eventbrite registration rather than a ticket purchase.
Why it's worth the drive
For newcomers weighing whether Gwinnett's reputation as one of the most diverse counties in the Southeast is more than a talking point, Friday's event is a direct, low-stakes way to see it in person — and a reminder that the county's own civic calendar treats cultural heritage as something to program around, not just acknowledge. The Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center sits a few minutes from downtown Lawrenceville's restaurants and the Lawrenceville square, making it an easy add-on to an evening already built around the county seat.
There's no cost to attend, and the short walk from the parking deck to the lawn makes it accessible for families bringing young kids or grandparents along.
