Gwinnett County runs 53 parks, according to the county's own parks and recreation map — more than enough to fill a weekend without ever crossing a county line. Most relocation guides wave vaguely at "great parks nearby." Here's an actual itinerary, built from real parks with real acreage.

Saturday Morning: Go Big at Tribble Mill or Little Mulberry

Tribble Mill Park, near Grayson, is 700 acres with a 3.4-mile hiking trail wrapped around a lake stocked for fishing, plus picnic areas and leashed-dog access. If you'd rather cover more variety in one stop, Little Mulberry Park in Dacula is even bigger at 892 acres, with a mix of paved and unpaved trails, a pond, a fishing pier, an equestrian path, and an 18-hole disc golf course.

Saturday Afternoon: Water, Wheels, or a Wooded Trail

For something on the water, Jones Bridge Park in Peachtree Corners has river paddling access on the Chattahoochee alongside soccer fields and sand volleyball. If you'd rather stay dry, Simpsonwood Park, also in Peachtree Corners, has a quieter 3.1-mile wooded trail through 223 acres, plus a meadow and a small chapel. Disc golfers have a second option here too: Alexander Park in Lawrenceville pairs its 18-hole course with a fishing lake and horseshoe pits.

Sunday: Slow It Down

Start at Freeman's Mill Park in Lawrenceville, home to a restored 19th-century mill and a small waterfall along a half-mile paved trail — an easy, flat walk. If you've got a dog with you, swing by the Chattahoochee Dog Park in Duluth, which has separate areas for small and large dogs plus river access. History-minded visitors can end the day at McDaniel Farm Park, also in Duluth, where restored 1930s farm buildings and picnic pavilions sit on what was once a working farm.

Know Before You Go

Gwinnett Parks and Recreation runs a trails hotline at 770-978-5270 for current trail conditions — worth a call after heavy rain, since several of these trails run along creeks and lakes. Most of these parks are free to enter; only amenities like the aquatic centers and reservable pavilions carry a fee.
